Epiphany and the Three Kings Prep

Robin Hall

On January 6th, Epiphany, the Three Kings Preparation was spread around the boundaries of the farm. The ingredients of this preparation are Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh and Maya is pictured here (with help from Iona) grinding these materials with a pestle and mortar.
Although most of the Bio-Dynamic preparations were devised by Rudolf Steiner, the Three Kings formula was created by Hugo Erbe (1885-1965). In 1945, after the nuclear bombing of Japan, Erbe experienced profound disturbances in the spiritual life on his farm. It seems that Erbe had clairvoyant qualities and his response to this experience was to create a preparation that would support and encourage beneficial nature spirits ((elemental beings) and mitigate the effect on them of the catastrophic nuclear bombings.

Walking the boundaries of a farm of this size, carrying buckets, in the middle of winter with so little daylight, is a big task. However, walking the fields in this way is beneficial in several ways. Part of the benefit is to gather a group of hardy folk to do this task and the act of walking the fields allows farmers and supporters to get a feel for the mood of the farm in mid-winter.

I had planned to write about animal welfare and describe what the picture of Maya and Iona can tell us. In an age of scientific materialism it is a challenge to describe the unseen benefits of esoteric work. However, it seems that the Bio-Dynamic work permeates the whole farm organism and enables confident and fearless animals and farmers to work together in a wonderful way.
