New tills for the shop

Jenny Thornhill

So, the new till system is finally installed. It’s up and running and we’ve just completed day three with them in full operational mode. I think it’s fair to say we’re pretty damned happy with it. I certainly didn’t think I’d be saying that so soon, but I surprise myself sometimes. It just goes to prove that you can teach an old dog new tricks!

Inevitably we’ve had a few teething problems, such as some products not being recognised but sorting them out means we better understand the system in these early stages. I say ‘we’, but what I really mean is Rebecca and Tommy. I don’t find it quite as intuitive as they do, but I’ll get there. To be honest it’s a bit disconcerting as I could sort out pretty much anything on the old tills but Hey Ho, I have them both on speed dial!

We have been hugely impressed by The EPOS Bureau who have provided the system. Their preparation, working to clear timescales, and back-office training have been excellent and then to top it all off we had the lovely, calm, patient Liam who did the installation and who was with us on day one holding our hands as we went ‘live’. Thank you, Liam! ☺️☺️👏

Behind the scenes, the amazingly capable Paul had built a new under counter unit which on Sunday was installed, replacing the old one, and he has sanded and oiled our lovely oak countertop in preparation for the new till units being installed once we had closed on Monday evening.

We all had our ‘L’ plates on (quite literally) on the first day but by day two several of us have progressed to ‘P’…perfect, passed, professional!

The card machine process is very speedy, so now there will be none of those awkward “it just takes a moment to authorise” (in other words “please don’t run off just yet.”) moments!

So new tills and new shopping baskets, what next…
