The season of plenty

Jenny Thornhill

I’m very enthusiastic about seasonal eating and if ever there was a time to eat seasonally it’s now. I usually think of the summertime as the time of plenty but actually now I think it’s the autumn season. There is such abundance and variety of vegetables from leafy greens to roots, beautiful colourful squash and often up to ten different apple varieties, plus some summer crops still hanging on in there, like peppers and chillies.

We love finding new recipes to add to our recipe board. I like recipes that are uncomplicated and really make the most of the seasonal flavours. Most of the recipes are favourites from farm and shop staff and occasionally when we have a glut of something we ask Kitty to find a recipe that makes the most of what we have plenty of and she’s a master of this task, she has a real understanding of what will work.

If you have any recipes you’d like to share we’d love to have them and add them to our board.

My current recommendation is the French Country Vegetable Soup and believe me it’s more than just soup. And of course perfect with Fermento Bakery Squash bread which is back on the scene as it’s squash time! Now that’s as seasonal as it gets….
